Tethered to Truth

Roy Swart

In 2020 the world seems to be coming apart at the seams.

Hundreds of thousands dead in a worldwide pandemic, millions of people in the US out of jobs and thousands of businesses shut down, most schools across the country closed for in person classes (both public and private), many churches severely restricted in their public services by the government, violent protests in many big cities designed to initiate social upheaval. The only consistent theme seems to be an increasingly vicious and open rebellion against the things of God . Should we as Christians be surprised? Discouraged? Or is our faith designed to thrive in such chaotic circumstances? Roy will share why now is the most fertile time for Christian Apologetics and how we as believers can be equipped to effectively share and defend our faith in these unprecedented times.

A Jigsaw Guide to Making Sense of the World

Alex McLellan

Many have stopped asking ultimate questions because they know we’ll never find all the answers - “it’s a waste of time!”

Alex will teach you a simple tool to get the conversation back on track. Look at life like a jigsaw puzzle and you realize you don’t need every piece in place to see the big picture. All you need are enough important parts that stand out and fit together. Start snapping things into place, so you can look at life and see the big picture: Learn to handle the truth; Learn to build your belief; Learn to anchor faith; Learn to deal with doubt.

The Perfect Storm

Josh McDowell

A youth crisis of monumental proportions is brewing.

It is the confluence of an intellectual storm, a moral storm and a relational storm all driven by the winds of a destructive internet influence on our young people. In this sobering, but much needed message for the church and believers, Josh shares shocking statistics on our youth’s Christian belief system and how the internet affects their beliefs and morality. It has leveled the “playing field” in terms of differing worldviews influencing our kids. Pornography is specifically addressed as it is the number one hinderance to a person’s spiritual life. While it can seem disheartening, there is hope with solutions that move young people from not just knowing what they believe, but why they believe it.

Thinking Biblically

Roy Swart

Consistency is the ultimate currency for credibility in today’s culture.

Few people know how to achieve it, and even fewer actually practice it, but everybody wants it, and they bristle when it is compromised. Come and learn why the only real approach to Christianity is an “all-in” commitment. You’ll be surprised (and inspired) to see how thinking the way God thinks makes everything make sense.

Christianity is Crazy

Alex McLellan

Christians become so familiar with the Christian worldview they can take it for granted - and forget how radical it is.

Take off God’s glasses and you see why non-christians think Christians are crazy. However, consider other worldviews, particularly a Godless outlook on life. Things just get more confusing. We need God, the Bible and the life, death and resurrection of Jesus to look at life and see the big picture.

Free Speech, Free Exercise and Apologetics: Hot Topics or Hate Speech?

This presentation will explore the current legal climate for expression and how apologetics conversations can and should happen in a “cancel culture” where 62% of adults feel intimidated about speaking their mind. Herb will also address how freedom of expression is beneficial for everyone (including those who say they oppose it) and a vital part of our republican form of government.

Social Justice, Critical Theory, and Christianity: Are They Compatible? (#1)

Contemporary critical theory is an ideology that divides society into oppressed and oppressor groups along lines of race, class, gender, sexuality, and a host of other factors. It has exploded in relevance in the last few years, expanding from academia into culture, entertainment, politics, and even the evangelical church. In this talk, I’ll explain the origins and central tenets of contemporary critical theory, showing both that it is not wholly false in what it affirms but also that it is fundamentally incompatible with a Christian worldview.

Examining LGBTQ Worldview from a Biblical Perspective

The collision of ideas about sexuality and gender are all about us. One worldview leaves room for science and truth, the other abandons truth-seeking and values self-declaration above all. We will look at the differences between LGBTQ and scripturally grounded worldviews, look for real hope, and answer some current questions surrounding LGBTQ topics.

Josh Brahm
The Most Persuasive Pro-Life Argument

In 2013, a group of advocates from multiple pro-life organizations started heavily experimenting with a different way of arguing for the personhood of the unborn. They were all shocked at how much more effective it was at changing the minds of pro-choice people than any other argument we had used before. They call it the Equal Rights Argument. Josh Brahm will show you how this argument masterfully takes premises that almost all pro-choice people already strongly agree with, and demonstrates that the only reasonable conclusion is that the unborn is a person with a right to live.

The Art of Disagreeing Well in a Cancel Culture World

These days, it is hard to have a meaningful conversation without offending somebody. But we can’t ignore controversial topics altogether without ceasing to be salt and light. In this session, Hillary Morgan Ferrer discusses how using the ROAR and chew-and-spit methods can help Christians to disagree agreeably. Attendees will learn how to sift through cultural ideas, separate the truth from the lies, embrace the truth, and reject the lies—all while maintaining a spirit of grace and love.

How We KNOW the Bible is True

The Bible is the foundation of our Christian faith; if it isn’t True we have no Faith. It’s not enough that the Bible was written shortly after the actual events, or that it was translated and copied accurately, or that it contains some accurate scientific information. Christians believe that every word was actually TRUE when it was written, that is really represents the very Words of God. No topic is as crucial in our day for being able to explain WHY we believe WHAT we believe. Unfortunately many Christians have never heard or thought through this approach. Come and learn. It will boost your confidence in your faith and improve your ability to defend it!

Linguistic Theft: How Culture Uses Christian Words to Promote a Secular Agenda

The Bible speaks strongly about the importance of loving and maintaining justice for the oppressed. So what do we do when “love” and “justice” have been redefined to mean promoting sin? Can our kids properly understand how to fight oppression when they are told that their Christian beliefs are the oppressor? In this discussion, Hillary Morgan Ferrer will explain the concept of linguistic theft, and how words are being routinely stolen to promote an unbiblical agenda. Attendees will learn how to spot buzzwords and redirect a conversation towards a more productive understanding of the linguistically thefted words.
